Days 16 & 17 ..... a very tiny frog

Day 16
we’re on the road again this time we're heading from Winnipeg
 east towards Kenora
landscape changes along the way to more trees and rocks, less farmland
drove through a couple of provincial parks with very dense bush but not very high trees

Once in Kenora we scouted out the Safeway and stock up on food

Kenora is a very beautiful town which sits on the Lake of the Woods
I had noticed one of our maps that there was a scenic drive on
highway 71 which runs south from Kenora

we took this route and we were pleased that we had
it ran along the shoreline of Lake of the Woods, Whitefish Bay and many
other lakes, a good road for the most part and not much traffic
the area appears to be a haven for sport fishermen with many resorts and float planes
still on the road again towards Thunder Bay but around 530 we had
175k to reach Thunder Bay so we decided to call it a day and look for a campsite

spotted a sign for Quentico provincial Park so in we go to get a site
pretty bumpy road for 5 km from the highway

set up camp and have dinner
sent a text to Cheryl only to realize that it didn't send because
of no service so I'm hoping it will send tomorrow
Winnipeg was still quite light out at 9:30 but here it is quite dark

Wildlife sightings so far 6 beers...oops BEARS
10 deer, 1 coyote and
a very tiny frog

  Day 17

we woke again in the morning to pouring rain
we left our chairs outside during the night

repeat after me….. “oh well they will dry out”
on the road around 10 AM
a nice drive through Thunder Bay where we gassed up because
the road ahead looks pretty bleak as far as towns go

we are now on eastern time as we lost an hour just west of Thunder Bay
east of the town we saw a road sign about a memorial to Terry Fox and we knew we had to stop
drove in and found the Memorial Center with a video of Terry's run
and a huge statue stands nearby
quite a lot of people visiting….very happy we stopped

Now on a scenic drive from Nippigon to Marathon
beautiful drive following the shore of Lake superior
only problem was the pouring rain and low cloud or fog

because of the poor weather and losing an hour and some construction on the
highway our plan to reach Wawa today was shelved
around 5:30 we scouted out a provincial campsite at Rainbow Falls provincial Park

young lady who checked us and claims the weather is going to change for the better
we hope she is right
a quick set up without looking unhooking the truck
ate dinner, watched a quick video then off to bed
trying to make it to Sault Sainte Marie tomorrow

 toodle-loo
