Day 34 & 35 ... so what if we have to pay $7 for a loaf of bread

Day 34 - Sunday, August 4 - 17 to 26 degrees

Woke at 7 to a beautiful morning
after a quick breakfast and because Dad had done a lot of the packing up last night
we are on the road at 8:30
{this seems to be a record to 'the anonymous scribe' }
one small problem ... the "Check Engine" light on the truck is still on from yesterday
after a while it did go off but we will have to keep an eye on it
I read the manual and prolonged trailer pulling and driving on dusty roads can effect the oil
so as soon as we can we will have to get the oil changed

something I have noticed about the houses in PEI is that a lot have porches in the front
of the house and that they like colourful Cape Cod chairs

we've been told the only animals on the island are fox, deer, porcupines, squirrels and beavers
lucky for Missy there are squirrels
I also love the window boxes on most of the houses
we are sorry to leave PEI but maybe we will return one day

Our ferry to Nova Scotia leaves on time at 11:15 and takes 75 minutes to arrive
we sat on the deck with Missy for the entire ride and she was very good {as usual!}

 a good highway in Nova Scotia
the terrain different from PEI with many more trees and not a lot of farms

and again.... many motorcycles on the road
we stopped in the Walmart parking lot in Antigouish for lunch in the trailer
sparsely populated between towns and the houses are nowhere near as cute as in PEI

every so often the colours of the pavement turn to red ...don't know why
the 'Check Engine' light didn't stay on today so we think all is well
we'll still get the oil changed as soon as we can

we arrived at our campsite in Baddeck at around 4 o'clock
nice friendly folks all around
we got some great info from them about what to do
 & where to camp once we get to NFLD

as I took the time to book sites for the first 3 nights in NFLD
Dad cooked chicken on the BBQ
after dinner a lovely couple from South Surrey (formerly of Fleetwood)
{how could they not be lovely if they are from Fleetwood}
stopped by with more great info
they have been on the road since May and don't plan to be home until October
it sure is a small world

I had read on the website and heard from other campers that one of the ferries that
is used on the route we are to take tomorrow ran aground last week
it is expected to be out of commission for many weeks
the website also said that if there was a delay on any previously
booked sailings we would be contacted
as that has not happened yet we are hoping all is okay with our plans tomorrow
thank goodness we booked in advance as they have shut down the reservation site

a nice evening and to bed at 11

Day 35 - Monday, August 5, 2013 - 20 degrees
Go Lions Go

up at 8 ... a quick breakfast in the trailer
showers then on the road at 11 am
note to self: go to Walmart and buy a better pen as I do not like this one
{'the anonymous scribe' types what is written....lol}

we are hoping we will be able to hear the Lions game this evening on the ferry
this is the ferry where Missy must stay in the trailer for the entire trip and we can't go see her
we will see how that goes
we had been told by Diane, our neighbour from last night, to go the mall and pick up
supplies before going to NFLD as the prices were very expensive there
once we got the ferry slip area we took the exit to the ferry by mistake instead of the one to the mall
it is now 11:30 and the ferry doesn't leave until 3:30 but there are already tons of cars,
trucks, RVs and semis in the parking lot

we spoke to the young man whose job was to measure the length of our truck and trailer
he convinced us to get in line and forget about the mall
so that is what we did

so what if we have to pay $7 for a loaf of bread in NFLD?

the parking lanes were VERY narrow which made it difficult for some drivers to navigate
we managed to eat our lunch in the trailer and wander around a bit to pass the time
and it was very hot
the loading seemed to take forever and we couldn't figure out the sequence

I forgot to mention that the young man also told us that the Argentia ferry
the one we booked to leave NFLD
was no longer running due to the grounding
there was no time frame for it to start up again

the young lady who booked us onto this ferry told us that they were trying to reschedule all
of the stranded passengers to sail out of Port Aux Basques on their original sail dates
after checking my emails we found out we were scheduled for August 13 at 11:30
at some point I will have to contact Marina Atlantic
to see if we can get a cabin if we have to sail through the night

once on board we leave Missy by herself in the trailer and head up to the passenger deck
we pass some time by mucking with pictures from my camera and trying to send
 them to Cheryl {'the anonymous scribe'}
we had the buffet dinner on board
not gourmet ... but okay
then found a couple of reclining chairs to relax in

there were a lot of big screen TVs on board
then lo and beholdone of them started to broadcast the Lions vs Bombers game!
Dad had bought a pair of cheap headphones and was able to take in the game
until the end of the 3rd quarter when the score was 19 all
at that point we had to disembark so we have to wait until tomorrow to hear the final score

Missy EXTREMELY happy to see us

almost half way through the voyage it had started to pelt down with rain
but we were grateful it had cleared up as we were making our way
to the campsite at 11:30pm
found the campsite quickly, only a 20 minute drive from the ferry
the proprietor was waiting for us
a quick set up of camp and to bed about 12:30am

Cod cheeks and turnip here we come
