Days 46 & 47 ... off we go to the tea room

Day 46 Friday August 16th, 2013
... 23 degrees

woke at 7 to a beautiful, glorious, sunny day
a quick pack up and then we called Scotia Chrysler in Sydney to see if we can get
in to change the oil .... 9:45 was booked

so we are on the road by 8:30
we took the advantage of a 'no frills' store across the street during the oil change
we also tried to get the trailer tire fixed but gave up after two tries
got on the road to Ben Eoin where we had a reservation for the next two nights
destination
Rita's Tea Room

as you can tell from the map we didn't have far to go so we reached
the campsite in Ben Eoin in record time
we decide to check and the tea house is still open so we
can visit there today and back on the road tomorrow

we chose the overflow spot in an open area for our campsite and we are glad we did
because this is a very touristy area and is right on the shore of Bras d'or Lake
most of the campers are semi-permanent so it is VERY busy

off we go to the tea room...

it's just as pretty as I thought it would be and I can see why Rita loved this area around Big Pond

the inside was decorated with many awards and gold records that Rita had won over the years
also lots of pictures of Rita with other famous artists & dignitaries

not a huge selection on the menu but I enjoyed the quiche & salad and dad had soup & salad

both were very good as were the desserts, mine was my very favourite
chocolate mousse which was served in an English China tea cup
dad had his favourite....lemon meringue pie

all of the dishes used for our meal were real English bone china
I checked each all of them myself, no 'made in china' for Rita and her fans !!!

and we can actually boast that we had lunch with Rita as her ashes
are in a teapot on the mantle in the tea room
our server mentioned that Rita's son, Wade, was in the gift shop so we had a nice little chat with him

I was sad to hear she had passed away in April as she was {is} one of my favourite singers
Rita's Tea Room: another thing off my BUCKET LIST!!!

back to the camp for some relax time and a nice quiet evening
took Missy for a walk around the campsite
and early to bed

Day 47 Saturday August 16th, 2013
... 25 degrees
Go Lions Go!!!

up at 6am and on the road by 6:45
we stop in Port Hawkesbury to pick up a few more provisions at Sobey's that I forgot at No Frills
you sure can see the difference between the two

after leaving Cape Breton by Canso Causeway we took Rte. 344 which is a scenic route
which runs along the south shore but the road is VERY rough
as soon as we are able to we get over to Rte. 16 which got us back to the main Rte. of 104

on the scenic route  we saw the cute houses, white churches, laundry on the line
huge yards with the grass cut to perfection
{anonymous scribe knows mom loves grass cut to perfection}
but while on the scenic route the GPS thought we were mad as hatters to be on that route
she wasn't happy until we got back to the Trans Can {Rte. 104}

the terrain is mostly wooded with no houses
Missy still sitting up and navigating most of the way
as we were passing through New Glasgow I noticed the sign for Westray Mines Memorial
so we stopped there to pay our respects and eat lunch in the trailer

back on the road heading for our destination...Dartmouth
we saw a lot of small road kill along the way....especially skunks
that's skunks not Scanks

we find our campsite in Dartmouth and after a quick set up we are off to Peggy's Cove
which lives up to all we have heard about it
it is VERY touristy though and there are tonnes of people enjoying the views and vistas

we took what we thought were a lot of great pictures and as we are leaving we
take the time to fine the Swiss Air memorial {which went down in 1998 just off the cost}
a very worth wile visit

back at the camp we have a quick supper and a little sit out
dad is ready to listen to the Lion's game which doesn't come on here until 10pm
too late for me but dad {the die hard fan} stays up to listen
